McCarthy’s Storage World

McCarthys Electrical contract work

The context

With three busy sites in Leeds, Wakefield and Harrogate, McCarthy’s Storage World has come a long way from its ‘man and a van’ beginnings, forty years ago. Now Yorkshire’s largest privately owned removals company, it handles domestic and commercial removals across the UK and internationally. In addition, the firm offers extensive storage, document management and other services to business clients. Committed to high standards across its organisation, the company wanted to ensure that all its premises are rigorously tested and certified for electrical safety and compliance, and they asked GRW to help them achieve this.

Key challenges

McCarthy’s needed comprehensive electrical inspection, testing and certification for more than 50 separate business units across all three of its Yorkshire sites. In addition, GRW would carry out a full energy audit to identify ways of improving McCarthy’s energy efficiency and cutting its costs. The key challenges comprised the large number of buildings to cover and the fact that the sites needed to remain operational throughout the work.

The project

For each of the three sites, GRW completed a top-down appraisal of electrical power distribution, compiling Electrical Inspection Conditional Reports (ECIRs), a full site reference map and an Energy Cost Reduction (ECR) report.

Great service – with a smile!

McCarthy’s were delighted with the outcomes of the project. GRW is always comfortable working in busy environments and took the time needed to understand how best to plan and action the work to keep downtime to an absolute minimum. McCarthy’s now has absolute peace of mind that the electrical compliance of their premises is complete. What’s more, they now know exactly what their energy costs are along with realistic opportunities for saving both energy and money. GRW also presented their client with comprehensive documentation and plans, along with their trademark ‘service with a smile’!
